The species “sleeping bat”, or Desmodus dormicus, is know to paralyse the victime before feeding on his/her blood. The habitat of the Desmodus dormicus is often a dark cave (Desmodus dormicus var antrum) or dense forest (Desmodus dormicus var silva), where ignorant visitors are attacked without mercy.

What do they use to put their victims to sleep? Coldplay music?
I was wondering : does a Desmodus dormicus imposes torpor on his victims? Is the victims core temperature dropped and there breathing slowed down to the point where they become cold-blooded and are completely dependent on the environment to wake up again. That would be convenient as they know that the victim stays asleep. But if so, the blood will coagulate and the Desmodus dormicus can not drink the blood anymore. It is a dilemma!
Intriguing, these Desmodus dormici : are there always on average 4 bats involved in paralyzing one pellegrim? Or is it just striking coincidence or an atristic impression of a total nutcase of a graphical designer? If there are less involved, does it take longer to put him into sleep?
Madscientist,
I would be happy to answer you questions, but the last person who tried to study the Desmodus dormicus was fired for sleeping during his work. Subsequently, little is know on these creatures.
So I propose that you study this interesting topic yourself. You will hit the cover of ‘Nature’ magazine.

It should, of course, also be noted that Chauns overall have an innate resistance to sleeping bats, acquired during their generations of slavery and useless wandering in mines and other damp places where Desmodus dormicus takes up residence. That’s possibly why sleeping bats dislike them so much. When they gang up, even a Chaun has to lay down. Then again, could also be plain coincidence. Or sadism from the artist’s side. Who knows, really…
